Specialist Crafts Paper Guide

Cartridge paper is one of the most commonly used papers in schools today. Its plain, smooth sufrace makes it ideal for designing and sketching with pencils, pens and inks. We strive to offer a range of sizes in a variety of weights. All are good qualty and excellent value. Use our chart below to see the range at a glance

Guide to Paper Sizes

The international 'A' size of paper is based on a square metre (or a million square millimetres) of paper cut in the proportionally balanced shape of 841x1188mm. This is called A0 size and each successive number indicates the halving of the longer side.

A0 - 1188mm x 841mm

A1 - 841mm x 594mm

SRA2 - 640mm x 450mm

A2 - 594mm x 420mm

A3 - 420mm x 297mm

A4 - 297mm x 210mm

A5 - 210mm x 148mm

A6 - 148mm x 105mm

Guide to Thickness of Paper & Board

Paper and boad is quoted in gsm = grams per square meters. The higher the gsm, the thicker the paper. However, the weight of the paper alone is not necessarily a guide to its thickness because of the varying densitities of different types (the measurements below are therefore approximate). Some boaard is quoted in sheet thickness or microns. 1 micron = 0.001mm.

248 microns = 200gsm approx.

370 microns = 280gsm approx.

500 microns = 400gsm approx.

590 microns = 470gsm approx.

805 microns = 700gsm approx.
